and now from washington's leading news station, this is news4 at 6:00. >> breaking news off the top tonight. three people dead, at least four others injured after a man opens fire at a day spa year milwaukee, wisconsin. good evening, everyone. i'm jim rosenfield. just moments ago police said they found the gunman dead inside that spa. 45-year-old ratcliffe hawton was involved in a domestic dispute a few weeks ago and there are reports one of the victims in the hospital is his wife. he owe pened fire in the milwau suburb of brookfield. francis coe has more on the shooting. >> reporter: emergency vehicles scrambled. >> we saw the copping pulling out their guns.

>> reporter: after shots rang out in a salon. >> a woman crawled out of the building. they scooped her up and taken her to the ambulances. >> reporter: three people were killed, four others wounded when a gunman opened fire at azana day spa. >> we saw ten people come running out of the back of the building screaming. >> reporter: wtmj has reported that police have found the suspect in the shooting, ratcliffe hawton, dead in the salon. he is believed to be the estranged husband of one of the salon's employees. dozens of officers from local agencies, s.w.a.t. teams and the fbi, including milwaukee's bomb squad, are searching the skrim scene. >> in the process of clearing that building, we believe we have identified what is being described as an improvised explosive device. >> reporter: as friends and family of those killed and wounded search for reasons why. former united states senator

and presidential candidate george mcgovern has died. mcgovern's family announced he passed away today in a hospice in south dakota. he was 90. mcgovern served in congress for more than 20 years. he strongly opposed the vietnam war and ran on that platform during the 1972 presidential race. he lost that election to richard nixon, of course, in a landslide. president obama released a statement reading in part today, george mcgovern dedicated his life to serving the country he loved. when the people of south dakota sent him to washington, this hero of war became a champion for peace. it's been two months since thomas maz lan was brutally beaten on his way home from a nationals game. he is still in the hospital. today the community came together to raise money for his family and learn a little bit about safety. darcy spencer is live tonight. i understand his wife was at the event overwhelmed by the community support. >> reporter: certainly was. that victim was walking home, as you said, right in this little

park across the street from where we are now. his wife has been dealing with so much since that time. her hshd is in the hospital. they have a young son. she says it's the community outpouring that's keeping her going. >> just want to give you a hug. >> hi. >> hi. >> reporter: it's been two months since beabby husband was robbed and brutally beaten in the eastern market neighborhood of capitol hill. 1y50i8d be a nervous wreck every day thinking about the future if i didn't have this army of people behind us. it's really amazing. >> reporter: that army of people turned out today for the ward six fall safety festival. proceeds will help the family. t.c. masslan remains in the hospital with a traumatic brain injury. >> we're risking losing everything we have worked for and it's incredibly scary, and these people make it possible for us to keep going. they really do. >> reporter: he was beaten while walking here in the area of seventh street and north carolina avenue southeast in early august. three men were taken into

custody weeks after the attack. >> capitol hill and eastern market neighborhood are very safe. and this is a rare occurrence, and that's why it has been so shocking and why the whole community has come together to fight back. ♪ >> reporter: there was music, a moon bounce, face painting, and safety information at today's festival. all sponsored by dozens of local businesses. >> saying this is a great neighborhood and we're not going to live in fear. we're going to celebrate what's great about it and we're going to come together and celebrate who we are. >> reporter: neighbors say it's a way to help the family and to come together as a community. >> it's just the will and drive of the american spirit of that brings everybody together and will stop needless, senseless crimes from happening. >> reporter: those proceeds will help the family as they deal with mounting medical bills. he's expected to remain in the hospital for another four weeks. reporting live from capitol hill, darcy spencer, news4.

george's county. officers headed to ham lan street and found the woman dead at the scene. police have not released the woman's name or made any arrests. police in montgomery county say they do have suspects though in a robbery and shooting last night in wheaton. police say a man was shot and robbed around 11:30 on mcmahon road near windham lane. no arrests yet, but police say they have identified people who may be involved. to iran today, denying report that it agreed to negotiate about its nuclear program directly with the united states. the white house dismissed the same report yesterday. iran says talks are ongoing with an international coalition of six nations that include the u.s., china, and russia, but it says there have been no discussions outside that group. reaction from israel has been mixed with some worrying that iran is only buying time. france's foreign minister said iran could produce a nuclear weapon by early next year. iran shure to be a big topic in

did you notice this, life sort of back to normal in dupont circle today at least as far as metro is concerned. the south entrance to the red line station had its grand reopening today. the entrance had been closed since early in year so all the escalators could be replaced. people who live and work in the area couldn't be happier. >> it's a lot of stairs to walk up. i'm glad this is finally open because it's a pain to walk all the way over to the other one. i think it's going to be a big help. >> the project was supposed to take more than a year, but thanks to a lot of work on nights and weekends, it only took 8 1/2 months. coming up at 11:00 find out more about metro's efforts to replace it's aging infrastructure elsewhere. the track work remains on metro. expect delays on the red, orange, and green lines through closing tonight. the bethesda and medical

stations are closed. buses will run between grover in. on the orange line, no trains between west and east falls church. on the green line trains will single track between greenbelt and college park. everybody should be back open in time for tomorrow morning's commute. thousands spent the morning racing around averagetrlington district. it took runners across the potomac and around the national mall. the winner completed the course in just over 47 minutes. chuck is smiling -- >> i hate that guy. 47 minutes. >> that's fast. >> that's like a 4:45 mile pace. >> what are you going to be running next weekend? >> i'm hoping to be doing a 7:45 to 7:50 pace over the marathon distance. i'm sure this guy wouldn't be able to run a full marathon that fast. >> are you nervous about next weekend? >> i got a little tightness in may calf already.

beautiful day outside today for running no matter what you wanted to do today. the weather could not have been any nicer to you. i hope you had a chance to get outside and enjoy it, and if you say to yourself, you know, what we really need is a few more 80 degree days, i say you might be in luck. this might be the october we can get one of our latest 80 degree days in years. the last time, and i have done a little checking and you know how i love to look back in the record books. the last time we had an 80 degree day, we were 80-plus, november 5th of 2003. that's the latest 80 degree day in many, many years around here. this wednesday, thursday time frame won't quite be november but we might be 80 plus no nonethele nonetheless. this will be the last cool day for at least the next five to seven days. a big dome of high pressure moves in and will push our temperatures way into the 70s and maybe even into the 80s as well. 63 now in washington. winds out of the north averaging 10 miles per hour. temperatures already back into

the 50s, northern maryland and west of the blue ridge. so it's going to be a cool night, temperatures going to drop fairly quickly, but as you make plans to get outside, these northerly breezes will be laying down not long after 7:00 this evening. temperatures generally back into the upper 40s and low 50s by 11:00 this evening. nothing to worry about on radar. we have to zoom way out just to find what's going on in the world. high pressure is in charge of our weather for starting today and going all the way through the upcoming week. here is what we're watching. down here in the tropics, this may turn into tropical storm sandy on the south side of cuba here over the next couple days, and that may be something we need to worry about seven days from now. this is going to be something we have to watch, and there's a lot of opportunities for this not to come to pass, but nonetheless, just keeping you posted. next sunday we may have a tropical system off the east coast and a snow producing cold front dropping out of the great lakes. got to love the change of

seasons around here. beautiful weather today. high pressure is in charge for now. clear skies will make for a chilly start by early monday morning. but a marvelous monday afternoon coming up. then a few extra clouds coming in as we get into the day on tuesday. i think any real rain chances will stay to our north and leave us high and dry except maybe you folks far northern maryland out into the panhandle of west virginia. overnight, clear skies, nothing to worry about. another chilly start in the morning. 30s out best of the blue ridge, mid and upper 40s in town. back to work and school, outdoor recess tomorrow. outdoor recess all week long. the big warm-up begins, upper 60s and low 70s tomorrow. here is the seven-day forecast that jim is going to give me $1 million for. >> oh, yeah. >> 72 tomorrow, 78 on tuesday, wednesday 82, thursday 79, both of those days, jim, are within one degree of a record. the record on wednesday 83 dates back to 2001 but the record on thursday, 80, goes back to 1902.

sports. >> carol is back to sort of dissect things a little bit with this game. >> i'm going to say what everyone says, it was tough, right? that was the quote after the game. that was a tough one. >> yeah. >> the number one trouble spot for the redskins this season, defending the pass. came in today worst in the nfl in yards in the air. eli manning exposed that weakness late in the game. all eyes on griffin playing in his first nfc east game of his career. bad news for the skins' office, that's fred davis working in the end zone and davis goes down holding his left leg. has to hobble off, and it's a torn left achilles, davis is done for the season. fast forward to the fourth. just over two to play. redskins down 20-16 with a fourth and ten.

this is why rg3 is so special. fires a complete pass to logan paulsen. a 19-yard gain and the redskins keep the drive alive. three plays later griffin going long for santana moss a 30-yard touchdown. his second of the day. rg3 did it again. gives them the lead with 1:30 to go. 23-20, but eli manning knows plenty about fourth quarter comebacks. 22 in his career and he's doing it again today. 15 seconds after the moss td, manning hooks up with victor cruz. a 77-yard touchdown. giants retake the lead, 27-23. you know what this means. it's salsa time. but the skins skill with a chance. 45 seconds to go, griffin to moss, but the man with two touchdowns on the day, he coughs up the ball. giants recover, washington with four turnovers all in the second half. redskins fall 27-23. they drop to 3-4 on the year. here is dan hellie with more

from metlife stadium. >> reporter: two number 10s out there on the field and it's almost too bad only one could come out on top. the veteran outdoes the rookie. eli manning with yet another fourth quarter comeback, his eighth in the last two seasons. >> eli is like joe montana right now. he's great. when i was here, he was good, and he's shown flashes, but he's exceptional right now, and he's got nerves of steel. they never feel like they're out of the game because they have so much faith in him and he rarely lets them down. so to beat this team, you're going to have to bury him and put the dirt on top of hem and put cement on top of it and watch it dry. anything short of that, they're still in the game and you saw that today. >> well, they sure proved it today. it was a great throw, double covered. hit it right on the money. big-time throw. >> we're competitors. he did a good job leading his team to victory today. you know, hopefully in the future i will have many more

get blown out. the last time the ravens lost by 30 points, 27 to pittsburgh. today it was the texans who had their way all over the field. a lone bright spot for baltimore, terrell suggestion -- suggs returned to the lineup after tearing his achilles. here comes suggs. a loss of eight. the entire texans defense was getting to joe flacco olympic looking for smith and, nope, it's going to jonathan joseph all the way the other way. a 52-yard interception return for the touchdown. texans win in a rout, 43-13 the final. houston now 6-1 on the year, best start in franchise history. jason garrett and the cowboys paying a visit to ron rivera and the carolina panthers. cam newton has his nateam in th red zone and now they're in the
